Message: I spent 2 years flying N74589 which is a C-47 out of then 7A1 or Donaldson Airpark, in Greenville SC in the early 1990s. We had rebuilt this airplane and had her in beautiful condition. The owner of the business and I had difference of opionion & I quit my job which paid $250.00/week. I heard the freight business closed soon there after.
I got to fly N74589 all over the Islands, Central and North America. It sure was a joy. We went through all types of weather as well as my part 135 check ride on her. I sure do miss Flying DC-3s.

Message: Got to fly the DC-3 for a few years back in the 70's and 80's. Flew them in Hawaii, the US, across to Europe and within Europe. Also flew the Tri Turbo 3 (3 engine turboprop) from SBA to Greenland and then up to near the North Pole. My DC-3 and taildragger experience (5000 hrs) turned me into a good Learjet and Gulfstream pilot wherby examiners seemed to always notice and proclaim, "finally a pilot who knows how to use his feet." All the best and if you are going to be at Oshkosh 2011 please let me know.

Message: I flew as loadmaster on the BBMF Dakota between 93-96. I had the honour of despatching the UK & Allied paras for the 50th Anniversary of D-Day. From my first flight on the 17th Dec 1993 I was hooked on the aircraft. I have met so many people who were involved with the C47, it humbling to hear their stories. One British para had his first landing in our Dak with me, all his other flights were just take-offs! I salute you all, allies all.

Message: There will never be an aircraft as honest and as beautiful...I dreamt of flying in a Doug as a little boy in Kansas. Little did I realize that soneday I'd not only do that, but I'd be one of the last members of the elite to jump from several of them (many years ago)! God bless Mr Douglas! Nowadays when I seldom that ragged dominator of the skies (my bride used to say I could hear a Doug thirty miles out),my heart will always serve as a hanger for the mighty DC 3!

Message: I remember flying into the Griffin Ga airport about 20 years ago and being amazed by all the DC-3's. I just watched a video about Buffalo Air a airline in Canada that is flying a fleet of DC-3 aircraft. The spoke about the 75 birthday celecration at Oskosh. It made me look you up. What a cool plane

Message: In 1969 I flew in several DC 3 planes around South America. Then just a few days after men walked on the moon for the first time we took of on a grass runway in the jungles of Bolivia and flew up to Quito Ecuador where we stayed for a week. In the second week of August 1969. We took off from Qhito with almost an empty tank of gas so that the DC 3 was light enough to make it over the Andes mountains. Oxygen masks droped down so we could breath at altitudes where there is little oxygen. We dropped into Bogata Columbia and fueled up. With full tanks of petrol we took most of the runway to lift off the ground. That was the start of an 11 hour flight to Miami. We had to have special clearance to fly over Cuba and as a 9 year old boy I remember my facination with the island of Jamaica as we flew over it. Ever since that trip I want to fly again in a DC 3 and dream of owning one one day.

Message: Great site. I had over 6,000 hours in the Gooneys with the Marine Corps. Our 4 birds were great and when I flew the last one from El Toro to the boneyard I shed a few tears. Memories, thanks for the site and keeping the Gooney Bird alive for future generations.
